PENHA LONGA & PORMARNOCK LINKS
Dear Member.
Another year nearly in the bag, and what a successful year it has been. We were fortunate to enjoy great courses with the added bonus of Sunshine and over all excellent weather conditions throughout the season.
A combination of first class venues and a host of extremely generous sponsors provided top class prizes that put an extra lair of icing on another brilliant year in the societies history.
With an increasing number of members looking to play it is no surprise to see the large numbers in attendance at time-sheet nights, forming disorderly queues to get their names on the sheet.
Is it any wonder that Tony Walshe has requested security and oxygen at future time-sheet nights. For the record we had more full time-sheets in 2017 than at anytime in the recent past.
We look forward to more of the same next year. Please see paragraph below regarding Membership for 2018.
In the event that you are unable to attend personally, just make sure your green-fee does via one of your friends. However priority will always be accorded to members who are there in person.
PENHA LONGA
The recent trip to Portugal was an outstanding success. We flew forty out and more to the point the same number came back mainly in one piece. That in itself is an achievement.
Cascais proved to be a very popular venue boasting some great restaurants and bars and the consensus was for another visit at some future date.
Talk about a photo finish, Just two points separated the first five players with Paddy Ryan eclipsing Kingsley Lewis on a count back to be first across the line by short head.
THE WINNERS
1st. Paddy Ryan 33 points (C/B)
2nd. Kingley Lewis 33 points
3rd. Gerry O Dwyer 32 points
Class 1 Mick Sludds 31 points
Class 2 Tony Casey 31 points
Class 3 Derek Erskine 29 points
Front 9 Kevin Maher 18 points
Back 9 Tony Buckley 17 points
Twos Kieran O Connell

SOCIAL NIGHT
Captain Michael Norton has arranged some top class entertainment for you and your partner following dinner and the prize presentation.
Please indicate at the time-sheet night if you are attending. This will permit us to inform the Castle regarding numbers expected.
Dinner will be served at 7.30pm.
The Captain and committee look forward to your attendance at what promises to be a great night.
FINALLY.
I have been inundated with requests from people wishing to join the society for 2018.
The committee have taken the decision to close the membership until 2019.
and consequently no new members will be admitted for our 30th. Anniversary season.
You will appreciate that we currently have full time-sheets and it is our aim to ensure that the existing membership who have supported the society during the past twenty nine years are given priority and the opportunity to play at every event in this special year.
Essentially we are now a society of members who all want to play the outings and increasing the membership will only result in disappointment for some at time-sheet nights when the CLOSED sign goes up with an hour to go.
Hope to see you at the social Night.
Yours sincerely.
Michael Brennan.
Honorary Secretary
