Matchplay Rules
Clontarf Castle Golf Society – 2023 Matchplay Competition Rules
The following rules have been put in place for the member’s benefit and to ensure that the competition is run in a smooth and efficient manner. Please take personal responsibility for ensuring that the rules are applied in your matches.
- The completion dates for each round must be rigidly observed – there will be no extensions.
- The Rules of Golf must be adhered to at all times. If during a match, a rules decision is required, this should be made between both players with equity and common sense. If a player is not satisfied with the decision, he must state his objection to his opponent before leaving the green of the hole on which the problem arose.
- Handicap Allowance:
(a) Singles Competition – Full difference in handicaps.
Lowest handicap player goes back to scratch with his opponent receiving the full difference between handicaps.
(b) 4-Ball Competition – Lowest handicap player in the fourball goes back to scratch,
with the remaining three players receiving 9/10’s of the difference between the low
handicap and their own.
Note: Members entering the matchplay competitions will retain their handicap with which they entered the competitions, throughout the duration of the competitions.
- The dates for completion of each round appear at the top of the draw sheet. There is also a note above each round stating which player/team has a choice regarding venue.
The player(s) with the choice of venue in each round has the responsibility for making contact. If no contact is made the opponent/s will be awarded a bye.
The player(s) with the choice of venue in each round will also have the choice of tees, which may be men’s medal tees or society tees.
The final will be played at a mutually agreed venue or, if no agreement can be reached, at Portmarnock Links.
- All matches must be played on golf courses in the 01 telephone area.
- If a player plays a match in his home club, the green fee must be shared equally among the competitors.
- All results must be notified to the competition secretary – This is the match winner’s responsibility.
