Palmerstown Golf Club

Palmerstown Golf Club proved to be a great success for the society strokeplay championship.  This is a very fine course in beautiful condition and we got some decent weather for the day, along with excellent catering before and after golf and the general feeling was that this venue is definitely one the society should return to.

Leading the charge for a return to this course would be Derek Beatty and why not!   Congratulations to Derek for shooting a nett 70 to take the Strokeplay Championship, with Declan Murphy in 2nd place with a nett 72 and Mick Chambers taking 3rd spot with a nett 76.  Huge thanks as always to repeat sponsors John Gaffney & Shay Fleming.  Full results as follows:

Infinitum Golf, Cambrils

Well done to the organisers for coming up with this venue and as above, it’s certainly one that could be on the cards for a revisit.  The Sol Port Hotel was perfect for our group and the staff were particularly helpful and welcoming.  The loaction of the hotel was perfect with a wonderful selection of restaurants in walking distance.  The golf resort was excellent and we had 3 days of wonderful golf and sunshine.

The Jameson Links, Portmarnock

Our final outing of the 2024 season will as usual be at The Jameson Links Portmarnock.  Having played our Captain’s Prize there recently we know exactly what to expect from this wonderful links course.  Kindly sponsored by Airport Driving School and Derek Erskine the outing will be held on Friday 1st November, tee times 9.40 – 12.20. The restaurant opens at 12.00pm but breakfast is available in the main hotel.  As this is the last outing of the year, the top 4 players in the POY (see below) will tee it up together in the last group.

Sign on for the outing is this Thursday 24th October at 8.00pm to 9.00pmin The Indigo Lounge, Clontarf Castle.  As always the best way to secure your preferred tee time is to be there on the night.  Green fee is €55.00 which includes the 2’s competition and charity donation.  Presentation will be in The Indigo Lounge from 6.30pm and will include all end-of-year presentations.  Complementary finger food will be served from 6.30pm sharp and presentations along with our annual charity raffle will follow sharply after that.

In the singles matchplay final Brian O’Callaghan takes on Maurice Griffin and in the fourball, Kevin Maher & Declan Murphy are in the final awaiting the winners from the other semi between Brian Byrne & Karl McCullagh v Hugh Ward and Níall O’Reilly.
