March 2022 Newsletter

Greetings from your Captain Vincent Clarke and the committee as our first outing of 2022 fast approaches. I hope everyone is fighting fit, has their clubs polished and is looking forward to the European Club on Friday 15 April! I’m delighted to report that our membership numbers are replete. We did lose some stalwarts of the society to leave-of-absence for various reasons and we wish them all the best! Hopefully we will see them return in the future. However, we had no shortage of new applications for membership to our thriving society.

Committee 2022
As has been the case for the past two years, decisions have had to be made in the best interest of the members and as such, we were unable to hold our AGM in The Clontarf Castle. Without an AGM, we have had to bypass normal protocol and move on with maintaining a full committee. I would like to formally welcome to the committee Vice Captain Stephen Mooney, proposed by Captain Vincent Clarke and seconded by Tony Buckley, and John Healy, proposed by Conor Dalglish and seconded by Tadgh O’Meara. Our thanks also to past Captain Tony Casey and Paul Webb for their excellent contribution to the committee for the past two years.

Onwards & Upwards
As you will be aware, Ulster Bank are soon leaving us and we are now in the process of setting up a new account. Banks are no longer encouraging punters through their doors so we have made a decision that we will no longer except cash or cheques. We have now set up a new card payment system.

We can accept nearly all chip and pin cards, contactless cards and devices. This includes Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Maestro, Visa Electron or Vpay logo. Revolut is also acceptable.

We cannot accept international magnetic stripe cards.

European Club

First up this season is the wonderful and challenging European Club, generously sponsored by Derek Erskine and the Airport Driving School. The outing will be held on Good Friday 15 April 2022, tees from 10.30am to 12.30pm. Sign on for this outing will be in Knights Bar in the Clontarf Castle on Thurs 7 April 22, at 8.00pm sharp. Cost if paid on the night will be €55.00 including two’s competition and charity donation. Prize presentation will be held in Knights Bar in the Castle at 6.30pm. Of course, card payments only please!
Charity Donations
The following letter is one of thanks from Sightsavers Ireland, one of our chosen charities from 2021.

You may recall we wrote regarding the coffee morning being held by our sponsor The Clontarf Castle in aid of the Irish Red Cross Ukraine appeal. Michael Brennan, Captain Vincent Clarke & Tony Walshe offered to donate the proceeds from the nearest-the-pin competition along with a top-up from the charity collection in advance to the Clontarf Castle’s fund raising effort, in order to support the cause at the early stages. The fantastic news was that, along with doubling proceeds raised on the day they also chose to double our €1,000.00 donation. This is a donation from all of us so well done to everyone involved, particularly The Clontarf Castle..

Rosapenna 2022
Can we remind you also that there are balances outstanding for our Donegal trip. Payments can be taken for this and for the Spanish trip at our next sign on night by card payment.

Matchplays
The singles and fourball matchplay draws are now available to view on the website. Take note of the due dates for each round please and can I remind you that it’s everyone’s responsibility to make contact with your opposition early to arrange your match.
