Captain’s Day Royal Dublin

What a fabulous way to end our 2021 season, with a trip to Royal Dublin to compete for Captain Tony Casey’s prize. A slightly damp start to the day wasn’t enough to spoil the day, even for the early starters and 65 golfers were treated to a great day’s golf in Royal Dublin. The course was presented in excellent condition, particularly the greens, which were rolling beautifully.

Congratulations to Tadgh O’Meara who turned on the style to produce a fantastic winning score of 38 points to take the Captain’s Cup and the fabulous first prize sponsored by the Captain. Second place went to Louis O’Carroll with a great score of 36 points beating Paul O’Halloran into third place on a countback. Great shooting gents. Full results as follows:

Our huge thanks to all involved at the Royal Dublin Golf Club for laying on a fantastic day for us all round. Our three course evening meal in the dining room was superb and music and drinks later in the bar was wonderful – it was great to get together with everyone after so long!

Well done to Captain Tony and Vice-Captain Vinny for getting through the additional presentations so smoothly. Congratulations to the matchplay winners, Tadgh O’Meara in the singles, with Bob Fagan runner-up, and Tony Casey & Phil Scallan in the fourball, with Sean Guirke & Philip McGowan runners-up, once again kindly sponsored by John Plunkett & Brian Kirwan of Plunkett Kirwan & Co Solicitors.

Congratulations to Seán Guirke who wins The Jack Guirke Memorial Trophy for Player of the Year, with Seán Reid runner-up, kindly sponsored by Michael Norton of Norton Fuels.

AGM 2022

The committee have come to the decision that it would not be appropriate to hold an AGM in January as it would involve gathering 40 – 50 people in a small room, which would be far from current government guidelines. As before, we will forward end of year accounts to all members.

The committee have agreed that there will be no change to our annual subscription for renewing members, which therefore remains at €150. Application forms for renewing members will be available on the website shortly or from the hon sec by request. Please complete your application form and forward it to honsec@ccgs.ie along with advice of your payment please. Closing date for receipt of applications and payment is 31st January 2022.

Preferred payment method is EFT please. Bank details:

For those of you who wish, you may use Revolut to transfer to the CCGS bank details above.

As is the case every year, it will not be known if there are any vacancies for new membership until all renewing members application forms have been received.

Application forms will be available for new membership applications on the CCGS website from 1 January 2022, accessible by members only. To be considered for membership of the society, fully completed application forms for new members must be returned to the hon sec by 31 January 2022, complete with payment as per the application form. Successful applicants will be advised before the first outing. If unsuccessful, payment and application will be returned in full.
