The Links Portmarnock

Another CCGS season came to a close with our annual outing to The Links, Portmarnock, kindly sponsored by Joe O’Flaherty of Flynn & O’Flaherty Construction. The Links did not fail to impress as always, in great condition, with fast greens and punishing bunkers. The weather was decent for the day with everyone staying dry and the wind significantly less challenging than usual on The Links.

2022 CCGS Portmarnock Links Winner Rob Greenhalgh (2)

Congratulations to Rob Greenhalgh who produced a fantastic score of 41 points to win the outing. Rob reminded us of the importance of preparation in golf – having played the course earlier in the week and using a stroke-saver to great effect. Fair play Rob! Also with a great score of 41 points in second place, beaten on a countback, was Damian T. Murran and in 3rd place was Mick O’Flynn with 37 points. Full list of results below. Our huge thanks as always to the sponsor on the day, Joe O’Flaherty, who laid on the lovely wine hampers for the presentation.

1st – Rob Greenhalgh (16) 41pts C/B

2nd – Damien T Murran (18) 41pts

3rd – Mick O’Flynn (12) 37pts

C1 (0-14) – David Cassidy BM (6) 36pts

C2 (15-20) – Paul Traynor (18) 35pts C/B

C3 (21-36) – Mick Kenny (27) 33pts

Seniors – Alan Leonard (28) 30pts

F9 – Conor Dalglish (14) 18pts C/B

B9 – Joe Enright (12) 22pts

NTP – Hugh Ward

2’s – Kevin Maher & Mick O’Flynn

Guest’s Prize – Noel O’Flaherty (12) 34pts

Our great appreciation also goes to Clontarf Castle for their generous sponsorship this year and who also supplied us with our complimentary finger food for our end of year presentation in the Indigo Lounge.

Matchplays

Congratulations to the matchplay winners, Seán Reid in the singles, with Stephen Ward runner-up, and Conor & Rory Gallagher in the fourball, with Kieran O’Connell & Jim Dalton runners-up, once again kindly sponsored by John Plunkett & Brian Kirwan of Plunkett Kirwan & Co Solicitors. John Plunkett reminded us why we should always hand him the microphone at every opportunity.

Player of the Year

Congratulations to Conor Dalglish who wins The Jack Guirke Memorial Trophy for Player of the Year, with Seán Reid runner-up, kindly sponsored by Michael Norton of Norton Fuels

AGM 2023

Please note that our Annual General Meeting will be held on Tuesday 17 January 2023 in The Clontarf Castle, 8.00pm sharp.

Proposals and motions must be submitted in writing to the Honorary secretary no later than Friday 6 January 2023.

The cost of golf, like everything else, is rising and in order to maintain the high standard of venues that the society has become accustomed to playing, the committee feel that an increase in the annual subscription is appropriate. It has been 15 years since such an increase and we are proposing that the subscription is increased to €200 per annum for ordinary members and to €150 for members under the age of 35.

Membership 2023

Application forms for renewing members will be available on the website from 1 January 2023. Please complete your application form and forward it to honsec@ccgs.ie along with advice of your payment please. Closing date for receipt of applications and payment is 31st January 2023.

OUR ULSTER BANK ACCOUNT IS CLOSED. PLEASE DO NOT TRANSFER ANY SUBSCIPTIONS NOR DEPOSITS TO THIS ACCOUNT. NEW ACCOUNT NUMBER IS IMMINENT.

As is the case every year, it will not be known if there are any vacancies for new membership until all renewing members application forms have been received.

Application forms will be available for new membership applications on the CCGS website from 1 January 2023, accessible by members only. To be considered for membership of the society, fully completed application forms for new members must be returned to the hon sec by 31 January 2023, complete with payment as per the application form. Successful applicants will be advised before the first outing. If unsuccessful, payment and application will be returned in full.

The rates for new applications will be €300 joining fee plus €200 subscription. The rate for under 35’s on 1st January 2023 is €150 subscription only.

A reminder to all that members of one year or less nor committee members may propose or second applications for mew members.

This is incredible value for a 3-day break and we fully expect the trip to sell out quickly, we have space for the first 50 members only.
