August Newsletter 2022

Dear Member,

I hope you are all managing to get plenty of golf in throughout this fine spell of weather.

Luttrellstown Stroke-play Championship

We had a beautiful day out for our stroke-play championship in Luttrellstown Golf Club. The outing was very kindly sponsored by long-time sponsor Michael Slein and National Lighting. 63 of our members played golf in glorious weather which also remained with us for our meal and drinks on the balcony overlooking the ninth hole. The consensus was that the course was in magnificent condition and we received the best of treatment from the Management and Staff of the club who had a light snack available before golf and good food available in the bar/restaurant afterwards.

Congratulations to Mick Chambers who managed to get the ball around in the least number of strokes, just a nett 71 in fact, winning the 2022 Strokeplay Championship trophy and Gold Medal. Second place and the Silver Medal goes to the man in form, Brendan Fagan, who beat yours truly on a countback with a tidy score of nett 73. Full results as follows:

Annual Strokeplay Champion & Gold Medal winner 2022 – Michael Chambers (4) – 71nett

Silver Medal – Brendan Fagan (25) – 73nett

Bronze Medal – Conor Dalglish (18) – 73nett

Class 1 (0-12) – Louis O’Carroll (7) – 73nett

Class 2 (13-20) – Paul Fennelly (13) – 74nett

Class 3 (21-36) – Enda Guirke (31) – 74nett

Seniors – Derek Mooney (20) – 77nett

Front 9 – John Gaffney (22) – 32nett

Back 9 – Sean Reid (15) – 32.5nett

NTP – Paul O’Halloran

2’s – Paul O’Halloran, Kevin Maher, Tony Judge & Niall O’Reilly

Many thanks to regular sponsor Mick Slein & National Lighting who laid on a fabulous array of wine hampers for the prize presentation. The presentation was held in Luttrellstown Golf Club which was a beautiful setting and it was great to see so many waiting around, enjoying a drink and the aprés golf banter (mostly tales of woe from the golf course).

Society Sign on Nights

Luttrellstown sign-on night was very poorly attended by members. We lost count of how many time sheet edits had to be prepared before tee off last Friday. As Captain Vincent mentioned at the outing, there is a lot of work that goes into preparing everything for an outing by the committee and late entries add to that load.

This is a social society and it’s always great to meet up with other members that you don’t see from one week to the next. Understanding that people are often away or some have to travel from a distance to get there, the committee would like to see members make the effort to get their name on the time sheet on the night please, particularly the newer members who would benefit by getting to know more members.

Captain’s Day at The Royal Dublin Golf Club

Next up is always the highlight of the year. This year we play for Captain Vincent Clarke’s prize at The Royal Dublin Golf Club.

The outing is booked for 19 August 2022, tee times 8.30 to 9.20am, 10.00 to 11.20am & 11.40 to 12.10pm (RD members only). Format will be four-man singles stableford. Members who have played in at least two outings this year are eligible to win the Captain’s prize. New members who joined in 2022 are not eligible to win the Captain’s prize but can of course enter and compete for all other prizes.

Sign on night is next Thursday 11 August 8.00pm in The Indigo Lounge, Clontarf Castle. Price to society members is €105 (€50 for RD members) which includes entry into the 2’s and a charity donation, green fee and evening meal. A beautiful menu has been organised and the cost to society members for dinner only will be €35.

Meeting for drinks with the Captain at 7.00pm and sitting down for dinner at 7.30pm sharp please in the dining room. Jackets required and strictly no jeans please. Entertainment is organised upstairs in the Christy O’Connor room for after dinner and hopefully you’ll all be in good voice for few songs.
