Malachy Menton wins the CCGS Northwest Championship

The society enjoyed another wonderful away trip to Donegal for the Gallagher Quigley Estate Agents sponsored Northwest Championship.  The Central Hotel was perfect for our members and lived up to its name being right beside all the best pubs in town. Donegal Golf Club in Murvagh was in excellent condition and we were very well looked after both before and after golf.  The weather stayed fine for most of the golf with only some of the later tee times catching some light rain on the links in Narin & Portnoo.

Not enough rain to dampen spirits though, particularly for very popular winner, Malachy Menton who turned in an excellent combined total of 71 points, winning the championship by 3 points.  Warmest congratulations to you Malachy, and to Shay Fleming who pipped Tony Judge for second place on a countback.  Excellent scores gents – full results as follows:

35th Anniversary Outing to Clontarf Golf Club

Incredibly, it’s been 35 years since it all began and what better way to celebrate this impressive anniversary by going back to where it started all those years ago – Clontarf Golf Club!  We have a wonderful day planned for as many members as we can squeeze in.  Sponsored by the legendary Brendan (don’t give him the microphone) Fagan & Stock Design, the outing is on Friday 21st July, tees from 9.50am.

After golf there will be a delicious BBQ organised for us.  The Open will be on the TV and what better way is there to spend an afternoon aprés golf.  To add to the fun watching the golf we are organising a sweep for all members playing on the day – everyone will receive a number of players and the prizes will go to the leaders after Day 2 is complete.

The price? In recognition of 35 years of society golf, the price will be €35.00! (€20 for CGC members). This includes your green fee, the BBQ, 2’s & charity contribution and your fiver entry into the sweep.  How about that for value!

Sign-on night is this coming Thursday 13th July at 8.00pm in The Indigo Lounge, Clontarf Castle.
