Dear Member,

Another highly successful Captains day was played in Royal Dublin on Friday the 12th. of August.
A fair but tough course played in dry sunny and a light breeze looked to be the order of the day when we teed off in the early morning. However the gentle breeze didn’t hang around for long and was soon replaced by a fairly stiff wind that assisted on the way out but took its toll on the way home..

Well done to all of the winners who played a difficult course in excellent condition against a field of seventy-four players. Not an easy one to win.

Winner of Captain Joe O’Flahertys prize with a magnificent score of 38 points, Michael Sludds. Second place with an excellent score of 36 points, Derek Mooney with David O’Halloran one back to clinch third place on a count-back.

Class 1 Vincent Clarke       35 points

Class 2 Stephen Mooney   35 points

Class 3 Dave Walshe          33 points

Front 9 Alan Leonard       22 points

Back 9 George Corrigan  18 points

Past Captains prize  Sean Guirke    31 points

Sponsors prize         Stephen Ward  29 points

Nerest the pin           Vincent Clarke  36 inches.

Longest drive            Bob Fagan        “It was huge”

Two’s                        Vincent Clake x 2 Ray Burke ,Paul Goti & Frazer McMullan.

Congratulations to Captain Joe O’Flaherty for the beautiful prizes and an all round great day out. For me personally, the burger on the 10th made my day. Straight down the hatch which was more than could be said for the direction my dwindling supply of golf balls were heading.

HOWTH GOLF CLUB CENTENERY YEAR

We tee off in Howth this coming Friday. You have already received the information by text regarding tee times etc.

PORTMARNOCK LINKS

The final time-sheet night will take place on Thursday the 27th. of October for the Links outing.
The outing takes place on Saturday the 5th. of November and will be followed with the Social night and prize presentation at the Indigo Bar that evening.
We have arranged top class entertainment and food for your enjoyment and hope you will support the final night of what has been a very successful year for the society.

SPONSORSHIP

We are most fortunate to have a very generous membership, some of whom dip into their pockets to provide the top quality prizes that just seem to magically appear at every outing.
I will let you in on a little secret. Its not actually magic its all down to sponsorship.
There is little or no return for these members other than the enjoyment they get from being members of our  wonderful society.
We are suggesting to members who have yet to have had the opportunity to sponsor to contact Tony Buckley who will be delighted to add your name to the list.
By the way it doesn’t have to be an individual sponsor for an outing ,the cost can be shared between two or three members.

Both the committee and I receive many compliments on the high standard we have set and maintained in operating the society. We can only continue this if we receive your support primarily as members and hopefully as new sponsors which will enable the stalwarts to step back and let in some new blood to keep Clontarf Castle Golf Society possibly the best in the country.

Yours sincerely

Michael Brennan
