Dear Member, I hope you are all keeping well and looking forward to our end of year & Captain’s prize outing in Royal Dublin on 29th October 2021! More details below. St. Anne’s One of those rare occasions saw us having to cancel our outing to St. Anne’s due to inclement weather, but the decision proved to be the right one with 48 members turning out to play the following week. Many thanks to St. Anne’s for accommodating us with tee-times and ensuring there was catering available before and after golf. By all reports, the course was in fantastic condition and played difficult on a windy day. Congratulations to Chris Cadwell on his first win in the society with a great score of 38 points. Great scores also from Mick O’Flynn with 37 points in 2nd place beating Kieran O’Connell into third place on a count back. Prizes will be presented at Captain’s Day in Royal Dublin. Full results as follows: 1st – Chris Cadwell (13) – 38pts 2nd – Mick O’Flynn (13) – 37pts C/B 3rd – Kieran O’Connell ( 19) – 37pts C/B C1 (0-12) – David Cassidy BM (8) – 36pts C/B C2 (13-19) – Sean Reid (17) – 36pts C3 (20-36) – Enda Guirke (31) – 37pts F9 – Kevin Griffin (22) – 20pts B9 – Liam DeRenzy ( 20) – 22pts Seniors – Enda McDermott – 36 pts NTP – Martin Kenny 2’s – Enda Guirke & Liam DeRenzy @ 17th. The Links, Portmarnock – report by Capt. Tony Casey 1 October saw CCGS descend upon The Links in Portmarnock for the penultimate outing of the 2021 season, a season which has challenged us all considerably. As we arrived in the car park we realized that yet another challenge lay ahead, although dry, mother nature provided us with a stiff breeze just to keep us on our toes. As always, the Links was in impeccable condition and with a friendly welcome from their starter the battle commenced. Our sponsor for the day was Jack Mc Hugh – Alucraft Ltd, Jack took up the last of the time sheet playing with 3 guests from St. Anne’s (Tommy Conroy / Finbarr Mulcahy & Christy Anderson) – from reports there was healthy competition within the fourball. This seemed to be the case throughout, in the Captains fourball we welcomed two other guests from St. Anne’s (former member Austin Behan and Cormac Mc Kenna) and again the standard was high and the pay-out followed. The blustery conditions throughout the day confirmed that the option of going off the green tees was a welcomed decision. Congratulations to Gerry Tobin who posted an excellent 34 points to win the outing, with Declan Murphy (33 pts) in second place and Sean Guirke in third with 31 pts. Great shooting on a tough day gents! Nearest the Pin was won by Phil Scallan getting it close on the 11th hole. Enda Mc Dermott was our leading senior, his continued good form giving him a double, having been the leading senior in St. Anne’s the previous month. Well done Enda & all who played. Full results as follows: 1st – Gerry Tobin (16) – 34pts 2nd – Declan Murphy (13) – 33pts 3rd – Sean Guirke (12) – 31pts C1 – (0-13) – Phillip Scallan (3) – 30pts C2 – (14-18) – Sean Reid (16) – 29pts C3 – (19-36) – Derek Mooney (20) – 26pts C/B Seniors – Enda McDermott (19) – 26pts F9 – Joe O’Flaherty (11) – 17pts B9 – Mick O’Flynn (12) – 17pts NTP – Phillip Scallan 2’s – Martin Kenny 11th, Sean Guirke 9th, Declan Murphy, Kevin Marley & Stephen Mooney 3rd. Matchplays Well done to everyone for meeting the shorter deadlines as best you could. The singles matchplay final is all set for a good battle between Bob Fagan and Tadgh O’Meara. The fourball final is all set also with Captain Tony Casey & Phil Scallan looking to take down Sean Guirke and Philip McGowan. Best of luck to all and play well. Captain’s Day – The Royal Dublin Golf Club |
What I guess is also a rare occurrence for the society is having our Captain’s Day coincide with our end of year outing with prize presentations and it’s shaping up to be a great day out. The outing is booked for 29 October 2021, tee times 8.30 to 9.20am, 10.00 to 11.20am & 11.30 to 12.30pm (RD members only). Format will be four-man singles stableford. Members who have played in at least one outing this year are eligible to win the Captain’s prize. New members who joined in 2020 are not eligible to win the Captain’s prize but can of course enter and compete for all other prizes. Price to society members is €85 (€60 for RD members) which includes entry into the 2’s and a charity donation, green fee and evening meal. A beautiful menu has been organised and the cost to society members for dinner only will be €45. Golf only will be €40 (€15 for RD members) however, please note that normal society rules around attendance at prize presentations are back in place for the Captain’s and on into next year, meaning that you must be in attendance at the prize presentation to win a prize. Meeting for drinks with the Captain at 6.30pm and sitting down for dinner at 7.00pm sharp please in the dining room (jackets required) as we have a lot of prizes to get through. Entertainment is organised in the shape of Don ‘The Guitar Man’ who has entertained us many times before. Hopefully this will kick off around 9.00 pm upstairs. SIGN ON & PAYMENT Sign on is available from Monday 18 October to Thursday 21 October inclusive, by email only. We are asking that you request either an early, mid or late slot only please. Please email Sean at sg@ccgs.ie requesting your desired slot and preferred playing partners, if you have a preference. Sean will do his best, as always, to accommodate all requests! At the same time, please immediately transfer the appropriate fee (and for your playing partners as you may arrange) to the society bank details, as below.
