SON GAUL / THE PORTMARNOCK LINKS / SOCIAL NIGHT
Dear Member,

The World weather experts were flogging seats on the Ark, such was the forecast for our trip to Mallorca. Mind you, when we touched down at Palma, I got the point and tried to buy one. The rain was coming down in buckets and the week-ends golf was looking very much like a damp squib. Thankfully, they managed to get it very wrong and we enjoyed excellent weather throughout the entire week-end. So much for weather forecasters!

SON GAUL, Majorca

The only signs of the deluge we experienced on arrival at Palma airport was contained in the bunkers throughout the course. They were flooded and in absolute tatters. The unfortunate staff were working over-time to empty and repair them.

All you had to do was to steer clear of the numerous new green-side lakes that had appeared overnight. A small price to pay to play such an excellent course.

Congratulations to our winners at Son Gaul and in particular to Declan Murphy who eclipsed David Cassidy to take the Ailesbury and Ashbury Retirement Homes First prize. Bob Fagan our overseas sponsor was on hand to present the prizes . Our thanks to Bob for the wonderful prizes and his continued support and sponsorship.

Another very successful away trip and our thanks to the committee for the time and effort they put in to making it a hassle free trip for everyone who travelled.

TEAM EVENT AT SON VIDA

The course was in excellent condition and I think everyone thoroughly enjoyed the experience. There were some libellous and scandalous rumours going around that the winning team was hand picked. I would like to scotch these dreadful accusations and thank Sean for my place on the winning team. Sometimes you get lucky. We were just awesome!!!

Congratulations to the runners-up who played in a three man team and were certainly knocking on the door. Thankfully someone closed it.

WINNERS Mick Chambers, Sean Guirke, Stephen Mooney, Michael Brennan 91 points

FINALLY

On Tuesday Grellan Murray was laid to rest. He passed away peacefully surrounded by his family.
Grellan was an inspiration to everyone he came into contact with during his illness. He just never gave in and had an air of positivity that I found truly amazing. He always had a smile on his face and on the few occasions that I saw him the smile was complimented by a pint in his hand. His bravery in the face of adversity was admirable. I know that his family and friends were a great comfort and support and helped him maintain his great attitude. The society will be not be quite the same without his laugh and sense of fun. His memory will live on and I have no doubt the funny stories that he was involved in will be retold for many years to come.

Grellan may you rest in peace.

Yours sincerely
