Laytown & Bettystown

Another successful outing for the society was had with our return to Laytown & Bettystown Golf Club. The course was in good condition and we were well looked after by the staff on a busy day.  Our sincere thanks to our sponsor on the day, Brian O’Callaghan of East Coast Inshore Fishing Company Ltd., who laid on some fabulous wine hampers for the prize winners.  Thankfully, we weren’t rained off this year but the society members battled a fairly tough wind all day.  A difficult test for most, but not so for some!

Congratulations to Jack McHugh for returning the best of the day with a quality score of 35 points. Well done also to Stephen Ward & Joe O’Flaherty who took 2nd & 3rd place with scores of 34 & 33 points each respectively.  Full results as follows:

Count Louth Golf Club, Baltray

Next up for the society is our annual return to the wonderful Baltray links, kindly sponsored as always by Mick Slein & National Lighting.  Full details as follows:

The time sheet will be available to view on the website shortly.

As you know, we regularly remind you of the importance of remaining for the prize presentation. It is equally important that, in the event you cannot remain for the presentation, you advise those who are working on putting the prize winners list together, usually Bryan & Seán, so that the proceedings are not delayed unnecessarily by having to make amendments. We would appreciate your help with this.

SLOW PLAY REMINDER

Slow play can take from the enjoyment of a round of golf. To avoid slow play

• Be aware of your position with regard to the group ahead.

• It is your groups responsibility to keep up with the group ahead.

• If you feel that your group is falling behind make it known and catch up quickly with the group ahead.

• If you lose a hole to the group ahead and are delaying the group behind, or if there is no group in front of you invite them to play through.

• Do not wait to until it is your turn, to select your club, put on your glove or select the yardage. Be ready to play your shot.

• Look at your own line of putt while the others in your group look at theirs (within the bounds of normal golf etiquette).

• At the green, position your bag to allow quick movement to the next tee.

• Move off the green as soon as all players have holed out or picked up. Mark scorecards at or on the way to the next tee.

• Play a provisional ball if you feel your ball may be lost or out of bounds.

• If you keep up with the group ahead you cannot be accused of slow play.

Matchplays

Both matchplays competitions are underway and results are regularly updated on the website. Please check your opposition and contact them as early as possible to organise your match within the allotted time.

The onus is on all players to make contact, not just the players with home advantage.

The knock-on effect of extensions causes problems later in the competition so extensions will no longer be granted. Remember to report results to competition secretary, Mick Kenny at 087 2438502.
