Chris Cadwell goes from strength to strength

Our second outing of the year sent us northward for a return visit to the fine links that is Laytown & Bettystown Golf Club. We were not disappointed and the club and staff are to be congratulated for looking after us so well before and after our golf.  The links was in great condition and proved a serious challenge on a very windy day.  Fifty members turned out for the Phelan Caswell Insurances sponsored outing.  Huge thanks as always to repeat sponsor Mark Phelan who put up some beautiful wine hampers for prizes.

Chris Cadwell was the man who managed the wind better than the rest and turned in an excellent score of 35 points to win first prize.  Great shooting also by Brian O’Callaghan who took second place with 34 points and to vice captain Paul Traynor in third place with 32 points.  Very well done and congratulations to all the prize winners.

2nd – Brian O’Callaghan – 17 – 34pts

Next up is our return to longtime favourite Baltray on Friday 19th May, kindly sponsored by Mick Slein & National Lighting.  Tees are booked from 9.30am to 12.20pm.  The format is singles stableford in 4-balls. As always, Baltray has advised that there will be food available before and after golf.  Remember, those of you who wish to use a buggy will require a medical cert.

The sign-on night is Thursday 11th May at 8.00pm in The Indigo Lounge Clontarf Castle. Discounted price to members on the night is €75 which includes your two’s entry and charity contribution. We had a great turnout at the previous sign-on night and everyone who attended ensured that they got their preferred tee time.   All late payers will not be able to avail of the  €75 discount.

Donegal

From Tony Buckley:

It is just over four weeks to our trip to Donegal, where we will play two fantastic Irish links courses.  Your balance payment is now due, latest payments by Baltray sign on night please,  which will be Thursday 11th May. If you are making payment by bank transfer, always please ensure that you add details of who is paying and for what, this is very important otherwise it creates havoc for our Hon Treasurer, Tony.

The itinerary is a 3-night stay in the Abbey hotel www.abbeyhoteldonegal.com on the square in Donegal town, arriving Thursday 8th June, returning home on Sunday, BB & one evening Meal.  Sponsor Rory & Conor Gallagher, Gallagher Quigley Estate Agents.

Golf in Donegal Golf Club, Murvagh www.donegalgolfclub.ie on Friday and Narin & Portnoo www.narinandportnoolinks.com on Saturday, 2-day event, tee in both courses is 10.30 am. Murvagh is just outside the town whilst Narin is 39 km away but on twisty roads – allow 50 mins for the drive and as always you must check in 15 mins before your tee time with Bryan.

As before, this is a 36 hole competition, with your score from day one counting for POY.  Presentation dinner in the hotel on Saturday night at 8.00pm.

See below for your balance due and the suggested rooming list.  Many thanks to those members who agreed to share rooms at late notice to facilitate the hotel. If any issues please contact Tony Buckley anthony@styletex.ie.

Sean will do time sheets in advance and as always we encourage our members to mix up playing partners on our away trips

We have had a couple of cancellations, meaning we have two spots available, if you are not down on the trip but can now make it. Cost €350 twin sharing.
