Mount Juliet Outing Report

Sixty-four members and guests travelled to Mount Juliet on Saturday last to play  one of the finest courses this country has to offer. As ever the venue lived up to its reputation and delivered a fair but tough test of golf off the green tees ( which were side by side with the white tees on most holes) to  both high and low members. Torrential rain earlier in the week made for a long and somewhat soggy course with little or no run on the ball. Bearing in mind we played in relatively calm and sunny weather the winning score of 35 points proved to be a very good score when you take into account the conditions underfoot. Lift clean dropping and placing were the order of the day. Well it is August after all !!.  For all who played you know exactly  how tough but enjoyable the entire day turned out to be.

At the end of the days play, it was Mick Sludds who took a well derserved winners prize, just edging out Fraser McMullen on a countback. Second runner-up was Ian Mackey a couple if points behind. Congratulations to all the prizewinners and thanks to Louis O’ Carroll and Fulcrum Medical Marketing for the superb prizes. We are extremely grateful for the generous contribution from Louis and the other sponsors both past and present who help make our society  one of the best in the country. There are very few societies who will celebrate 25 years in existance in 2013. We have our sponsors to thank for our continued success. Thank you.

Check out the Photo Gallery for Mount Juliet and have a look at the excellent pictures taken at the outing by Philip McGowan. He was up all night photo-shopping and air brushing the images in an effort to pretty up the site.  In my opinion a magic wand would’nt go astray  but please bear in mind Philip is a photographer not a wizard.

Shay Fleming mislaid a Callaway 4 iron possibly in the region of the 7th. green. Rumour has it that after failing to hole a sixty foot shot with the aforementioned club he threw it into the nearby woods in disgust and it just disappeared. Please check your golf bags to see if it landed there.

This may come as a shock to some of you ! Sean Guirke Class 1 golfer was officially relegated to Class 2 after more than twenty years playing in the Premiership. Sean has had sixteen class one wins over the years ,  a record only equalled by Philip Mc Gowan.
A visibly shocked Sean when asked how he felt about accepting the Class 2  prize of a case of wine, he replied ” it will taste just as delicious as the case of wine that Class 1 winner Conor Gallagher  won to-day “.

We are considering  therapy for the former Class 1 player to enable him to accept his new status. However if this slide continues he could be battling myself and a few others for Class 3 prizes next season. Don’t worry Sean the prizes all taste the same they just have different numbers attached to them.
