BALTRAY & WATERVILLE
Dear Member
Regardless of your status in the society. Be it new, back from a leave of absence or a member from the 20th. century. This is promising to be a great year to be a member. See society membership lower down.
We started the year on a high note with Sutton which certainly surpassed any expectations that I personally had. It is still being talked about in terms of another visit next year.
BALTRAY
Without question this is one of the finest courses that the society has played in the past twenty eight years. The warm welcome we receive at every visit and the sheer quality of the course ensures it is on our fixture card year after year.
Our thanks to our sponsor Tadgh O Meara & Kish Fish whose generosity added the cream to another perfect society outing.
New member Michael Chambers got off to a flying start scoring a very impressive 39 points at Baltray. When Michael joined this year the H/C committee gave him a new lower handicap than his current GUI handicap. The really good news is he now has an even newer handicap after Baltray. Judging by his last society performance he probably won’t even notice.
Dark horse Kevin Griffin matched Michaels score but unfortunately for him he lost out on a count back. Just in case you think the handicap committee have favourites, they have given Kevin a new one as well.
THE WINNERS
First Michael Chambers 39 points
Second Kevin Griffin 39 points
Third Tadgh O Meara 38 points
Class 1 Kevin Maher 37 points
Class 2 Ian Mackey 38 points
Class 3 Alan Leonard 35 points
Front 9 Derek Mooney 18 points
Back 9 Tony Buckley 21 points
NTP John Oppermann
Two’s Louis O Carroll Conor Gallagher Kieran o Connell
WATERVILLE OUTING
This trip has been booked out since January. As per normal the odd cancellation always crops up when time-sheets are filled months in advance. Such is the desire to play Waterville a cry off took on the appearance of a fillet steak thrown at a lion. It didn’t last very long. Consequently as I am writing the time-sheet is still jammers.
You should have received a letter sent earlier this week detailing the full itinerary on the Waterville trip from Tony Buckley. If you have any questions please contact Tony.
Needless to say we will not be having a time-sheet night for Waterville.
Please read the itinerary on the website in the event that you did not receive the Waterville email.
Our sincere thanks to our long time sponsor Brendan Fagan & Stock Design who are providing the prizes on this occasion.
A lot of people think that it was Gay Byrne who coined the phrase “one for everyone in the audience”. Word has it that it was actually Brendan, and I have no doubt that all who play at Waterville will not go home empty handed.
MALLORCA
Please don’t blow all of your spare cash in Kerry as we will be collecting €250 from the members who are travelling to Mallorca at the Druids Glen time-sheet night on Thursday the 9th. of June.
This trip is also booked out and flight tickets have been paid for by the society. Any member cancelling at this stage is fully liable for the cost of the flight and may incur a hotel cancellation charge.
If you wish to go on the waiting list please contact me and I will add your name.
SOCIETY MEMBERSHIP
The membership is currently at full capacity. We have received a substantial number of expressions of interest from current members whose friends would like to join the society next season. The committee are reviewing the situation, however as things stand the membership is likely to be closed for 2017 and in 2018 when we will celebrate our 30th Anniversary.
MATCH-PLAY COMPETITIONS
Please have your match played before the deadline. Results phoned to Shay Fleming.
The rules governing the competition are published on the website. Please read them before you tee it up.
AND FINALLY
Irish Guide Dogs are having a fund raising day at Saint Margarets Golf Club on Friday the 20th. of May. A four man team will cost €300. There are a limited number of tee times available. Sponsorship of a tee or a green is a mere €100. Please contact Dermot Hennessy.
Yours sincerely
Michael Brennan
Honorary Secretary
