Dear Member,

The Royal Dublin Golf Club

Our annual return to The Royal Dublin Golf Club was another super day out for the society sponsored by the Airport Driving School.  The links was in great shape and played as tough as always with a strong wind, particularly on the back nine.  Thankfully, the rain held off for us on the Friday, but it’s worth noting that Thursday had been a washout and the club competition was cancelled due to stormy weather on the Saturday.  We’ll chalk that one down to clean living for Captain Malachy!

Congratulations to Paul O’Halloran who shot a great score of 41 points to win the outing, beating a field of 63 golfers, with second place going to Declan Murphy with a fine score of 38 points.  Full results as follows:

1st – Paul O’Halloran (6) 41pts

2nd – Declan Murphy (12) 38pts

3rd – George Corrigan (14) 37pts

C1 – (1-12) Phil Scallon (2) 34pts

C2 – (13-17) Tadgh 0’Meara (15) 34pts

C3 – (18-28) Mick Kenny (26) 37pts

F9 – Tony Casey (14) 20pts

B9 – Sean Guirke (10) 20pts

NTP – Paul Traynor

2’s – George Corrigan, Mick Kenny, Paul O’Halloran & Bob Fagan

The prize presentation, at the earlier time of 6.30pm, proved popular, with a good number of members turning up to support the Captain and the sponsors.  Thanks to Clontarf Castle as always for reserving the room and laying on a lovely selection of complimentary finger food for us.  Our huge thanks, of course, to returning sponsors, The Airport Driving School and Derek Erskine, who laid on a fine selection of golf prizes for us.  Remember to keep them in mind if your loved ones are at the driving lesson stage of life!

Co. Louth GC, Baltray

Next up for the society is our return to the much loved County Louth Golf Club, Baltray on 17 May 2019, 9.30am to 12.20pm for the National Lighting sponsored outing.  Time sheet night is this Thursday 9 May, from 8.00pm to 9.30pm in Knights Bar in the Castle.  The fee will be €65 if paid on the night, and includes two’s entry and charity.  We will be playing in 3-balls.  Anyone requiring buggies for golf will need to book directly and a medical cert will be required by the club.  Breakfast will be available from 8.30am and dinner will be available after golf.  Watch out for local rules on the day – further advice will follow.

A reminder also that one of our former members has a concert coming up on 22 May and would love some support from the society.  Those of you who got to hear Pat perform for us at The K Club last year will agree how talented a performer Pat is.

This major concert will be in The National Concert Hall, and Pat will be joined by Finbar Furey and John Sheahan along with the RTE Concert Orchestra.  Further information on his website www.patcoldrick.com
