Portmarnock Golf Club

18th Hole in Portmarnock Golf Club

First up is the society’s long-awaited return to the fabulous Portmarnock Golf Club, kindly sponsored once again by the Airport Driving School and Derek Erskine.

The outing is on THURSDAY 30th March, tees from 8.30 to 11.00am. Prize presentation will be in The Indigo Lounge, Clontarf Castle at 6.30pm that evening, where we will also hold our charity raffle, with proceeds going to the Syria/Turkey earthquake appeal. We have some super fourball vouchers and a fantastic prize of a weekend in Rosapenna with B&B plus golf for two – not to be missed!. Entry will be names on tenners, no limit! As already mentioned, there will be no buggies available in Portmarnock, but it is considered a flat course suitable for walking. Discounted cost to members will be €100 which includes €5 for the 2’s competition and charity contribution.

As per discussion at the AGM, the committee is very keen to promote the need for members to attend sign-on night in person when possible. The reasons are simple – it promotes solidarity & friendships in the society, it gives members the best options on their preferred playing times, it supports the committee who need firm numbers one week before the outing and it connects us with our patrons, The Clontarf Castle.

The sign-on process is unchanged, it opens at 8.00pm, and all in attendance will be offered their preferred time on the sheet as they arrive, if they are paying for others, names will be noted and after all in attendance are looked after, at circa 9pm, these members will be allocated times on the sheet where available. This is the same process for members who pay directly to the bank account prior to sign on. Note only card or bank transfer payment is available.

All members who pay on or before sign on, will benefit from the reduced outing cost of €20. All late payers will be subject to the extra €20 charge.

The committee wish to stress the importance of having firm numbers on sign-on, it allows us to be professional with the clubs we visit and it cuts down extra work for the committee. In the unusual event that a member misses the sign-on or his circumstances change, he should text or email (not telephone) Sean Guirke to see if there are any late slots available. Sean will reply at his earliest convenience. If a slot is available, payment should be made by bank transfer before the outing. Again we stress this should be a rare and unusual occurrence, going forward, serial late comers will not be facilitated.
