July Newsletter

Dear Member,

The Arctic conditions that caused the  cancellation of  the Portmarnock outing twice within two weeks in March were well and truly forgotten by all who graced the fairways  last Thursday. The sub tropical climate we played in had more in common with the Costa Del Sol than North Dublin.
The Sun soaked fairways and greens at Portmarnock made for a memorable, and certainly one of the better days the society has experienced over the past few years. The course was in excellent condition and correctly deserves to be recognized  in the top three links courses in the country.
The Hugh J Ward & Co. Solicitors sponsored outing proved to be a huge success. The prize winners richly deserving to be top of the pack having played a championship golf course that required accuracy from tee to fairway, and avoiding the unforgiving rough where I seemed to spend a lot of my time.

The Winner at Portmarnock with an excellent score of 37 points David Cassidy (Royal Dublin) was followed closely by Paul Goti with 36 points and Barry Murray with a very respectable 35 points.

FOOD AND DRINK
It has been brought to our attention by Luttrelstown Golf Club that several food and drinks bills were not paid on the day we visited the club. A simple mistake. However it does cast something of a shadow over the reputation of the society when something like this occurs. Please make a point of paying for all services received prior to departure from the clubs we visit. I will be happy to accept payment from any member who forgot to pay at Luttrelstown.

SPAIN – SAN ROQUE
We have a couple of places at the original price of €400 still available for this trip owing to cancellations. We will close off on this trip on the 24th. of August so you have until this date to come on board.

Members travelling to Spain as part of the complete package are encouraged to hire clubs from Clubs to Hire and if possible bring carry on bags rather than checked luggage. This will speed up our departure from Malaga Airport on arrival on the 9th. of October. This is simply a recommendation as I know that some members like to be well turned out apre- golf and are keen to bring their favourite ball gown or black tie outfit for the week-end. Remember this is one society outing where you are welcome to wear your favourite designer denims throughout the week-end except on the golf course or clubhouse.

BRYAN KENNY
Best wishes to Bryan who is currently indisposed and is expected to resume the issuing of two shot penalties at Concra Wood.

Yours sincerely
