Dun Laoghaire Outing Report

Dear Member,

It’s Wednesday morning the 1st. August also known as the middle of Summer and as I write this outing report I am looking out the window at weather conditions that could bring tears to your eyes. Wind, rain and dark clouds and its not yet 10.00am.

We certainly got a glimpse of Summer at Dun Laoghaire Golf Club last Friday. Situated close to Enniskerry with the Sugarloaf mountain as a backdrop, this golf course is truly magnificent in all aspects. A well tended course offering superb greens with very difficult pin positions, made it tough test for the members who took part in the annual Strokeplay Cup. Listening to the comments in the clubhouse after the game it would seem that everyone had a good time and all concerned would like to have another go at the course.

The 2012 Winner of The Strokeplay cup and Gold medal with an excellent 72 was Sean Furlong. Myki Heather maintaining his place in the player of the year rankings took the Silver medal with a score of 74 followed by Mick Sludds who won the Bronze medal with a 75.
The Classes 1,2 and 3 were won by Ian Mackey 77. Captain Michael Connolly 77 and Stephen Tucker 79, respectively.
The Front nine went to Vincent Clarke with 35.5 and the Back nine to Shay Fleming also with 35.5
Nearest the pin was won by Tadg O Sullivan who missed a hole in one by a mere 44″

Sean Furlong - Gold Medal Winner 2012

Captain - Michael Connolly; Winner - Sean Furlong; Sponsor - Brendan Fagan

Our thanks to Brendan Fagan and Stock Design who sponored the day. As ever Brendan always ensures that everyone is a winner and no one goes home empty handed. After the prizes were awarded the rest of the field could choose from a wonderful array of lunch boxes, filtered water bottles, sets of knives and travel mugs, all courtesy of Brendan. For those of you who failed to get your particular favourite due to stock levels; it is worth noting, that you can select from a vast range of products at very reasonable prices when you pay a visit to Stock Design, located in South King Street.

At this point you may be thinking we screwed up as Brendans outing is in Mount Juliet according to the fixture card. Very simply an unexpected timing problem arose for Louis O Carroll and Fulcrum Medical Marketing who were originally the sponsors for Dun Laoghaire. Brendan very kindly agreed to swap with Louis who will now sponsor Mount Juliet.

If Louis wants to follow Brendans example and ensure that no one leaves empty handed, he must know someone in Pfizer Ireland who can send him up some samples to hand out after the game; then we can all go home happy. I can already visualise the mobile calls to the missus after the prize giving…”Wait until you see what I got for you this time love” !!!

Check out the Photo gallery for some serious works of art created by resident photographer Philip McGowan at Dun Laoghaire.
