December Newsletter

I hope that you all had a good year and enjoyed the venues that we played this season. The lack of rain and wind at most of the outings went a long way in making the years golf a pleasant experience. Your ability to take advantage of the conditions was down to you.

Always remember your club Pro could probably do with a new car. Spending money on lessons should improve your game and more importantly help the club Pro with his monthly payments on a bright new Audi. (Don’t mention it Sean, anything to help!)

The generosity of our sponsors this year played a big part in the successful year we all enjoyed.  Ensuring  that the winners at each outing were well rewarded for their efforts. I would like to take this opportunity to thank our sponsors for their support over the years and in particular the past five years when sponsorship was probably the last thing on peoples minds.

At the start of the season we embarked on a mission to bring young people into the society. This came about from a proposal from Malachy Menton supported by Dave Walshe. We signed up four young fellas and judging by the way they performed throughout the year we can all look to our laurels.
New boy Mantan Walshe featured regularly in the prizes throughout the season. In the final outing he was in 9th. place in Player of the year. A lot of members would have been happy to be in the top ten at the end of the season. However this young man had other ideas and returned a great score of 38 points to take the trophy by a solitary point from Sean Guirke who was looking at back to back wins.

A little bit of history also comes into play regarding his win. Mantans father Dave Walshe  won the Player of the year trophy the year Mantan was born. In that particular year all Dave had to do was turn up at an outing and it was really a question of who was going to be in second place.

Our Christmas party at the Indigo Lounge was a great night and all who attended had a good time. I was personally disappointed at the low turnout. When taking into account that it is a complimentary night with dinner and entertainment and the opportunity for all of the members and partners to meet up I find it puzzling that we do not get a full house.
Check out the photos taken by Philip McGowan at the social night. Some really great shots from Philip who is now available for weddings, parties, christenings or any other social event that requires a quality photographer. ( Heineken)

Our thanks to Enda O Meara and Clontarf Castle for their generosity in hosting the social night for the members.

The Annual General Meeting will take place on Thursday the 15th January at 8pm in Clontarf Castle.
Motions and proposals must be received by the Honorary secretary by the 8th. Jan 2015.

On behalf of Captain Stephen Ward and the committee I wound like to wish you all a very Happy Christmas and New Year.
