I trust this email finds you well and looking forward to Christmas.  If you’re fed up reading election news you’re in the right place – read on for some latest society news and a first look at our mouth watering schedule for 2025!

The Jameson Links, Portmarnock

Another CCGS season came to a close with our second outing to The Jameson Links, Portmarnock, in 2024 kindly sponsored by Derek Erskine & Airport Driving School.   With the recent upgrade bedding in the course was presented in excellent condition and proved a stern test on a decent day for the time of year.

Congratulations to Barry Teeling who produced an amazing score of 44 points to win the outing.  Great scores also for Brian Byrne with 42 points in second place  and Rob Greenhalgh finishing third with 39 points.  Full list of results below.  Our huge thanks as always to the sponsor on the day, Derek Erskine & Airport Driving School who laid on some excellent golf prizes for the presentation.

Matchplays

Firstly, congratulations to the 2023 fourball matchplay winners, Joe Enright & Mick Kenny who beat Mick Chambers & Tadgh O’Meara in last year’s final which had been postponed.  The lads got to hold the trophy for all of two minutes until this year’s winners were announced – Karl McCullagh & Brian Byrne, in their first year of society membership, who beat the formidable pairing of Kevin Maher & Declan Murphy.

Congratulations also to Maurice Griffin for winning the singles matchplay beating Brian O’Callaghan in the final.

Many thanks as always to John Plunkett & Brian Kirwan of Plunkett Kirwan & Co Solicitors for their continued support of these competitions.

Player of the Year

Congratulations to Rob Greenhalgh who wins The Jack Guirke Memorial Trophy for Player of the Year with a score of 207 points, with Kevin Maher runner-up just 2 points back on 205 points, kindly sponsored by Enda Guirke.  The trophy was presented to Rob by Jack Guirke, son of Enda & grandson of Jack Guirke.

AGM 2025

Please note that our Annual General Meeting will be held on Thursday 16 January 2025 in The Indigo Lounge, Clontarf Castle, 8.00pm sharp.

Proposals and motions must be submitted in writing to the Honorary secretary no later than Thursday 9 January 2025.

Membership 2025

Application forms for renewing members will be available on the website from 1 January 2025.  Please complete your application form and forward it to honsec@ccgs.ie along with confirmation of your payment please. Closing date for receipt of applications and payment is 31st January 2025.

As is the case every year, it will not be known if there are any vacancies for new membership until all renewing members application forms have been received.

Application forms will be available for new membership on the CCGS website from 1 January 2025, accessible by members only. To be considered for membership of the society, fully completed application forms for new members must be returned to the hon sec by 31 January 2024, complete with payment/proof of payment as per the application form. Successful applicants will be advised before the first outing. If unsuccessful, payment will be returned in full.

The fees for new applications will be €300 joining fee plus €200 subscription. The fees for those aged under 35 on 1st January 2025 is €150 subscription only.

Note: A member of the society may not propose nor second the nomination of a new member until completion of their third year as a member. Committee members may not propose nor second new applications.

2025 Schedule

The following itinerary & details are coming to you from course liaison Tadgh O’Meara & and the committee.  Please pay particular attention to information regarding flight booking.

On behalf of our Captain elect, Ian Mackey and the committee, we are delighted to bring you information and dates for next year’s outings. With some fantastic venues lined up, make sure you get the dates in your diary now!

28 March 2025 – Seapoint Golf Club

It’s been a while since the society visited this lovely links.  Tees booked from 9.30am.

25 April 2025 – Laytown/Bettystown Links

Another super links course, ideal for this time of year.  Tees booked from 9.30am.

16 May 2025 – County Louth, Baltray

We all look forward to our annual visit to Baltray – a top class links course.  Tees are booked form 9.30am.

4 – 6 June 2025 – Enniscrone & Rosses Point

Two top class links course are lined up for our 2-day West of Ireland Championship. We arrive on Wednesday 4th June.

The Hotel:

We are booked in for 3 nights at the award-winning 4-star Diamond Coast Hotel, which overlooks Killala Bay in Enniscrone. The hotel is conveniently situated beside Enniscrone Golf Club.

The Golf:

Thursday 5th June we tee it up for Round 1 of our 2-day event on the wonderful Enniscrone Links.  Tees are booked from 10.00am, this is an outstanding Links golf course not to be missed.

Friday 5th June is an early start with an approximate 1 hour drive to County Sligo Golf Club at  Rosses Point for 10.00am tee times.  Another fabulous links golf course, annual host of The West of Ireland Championship and another welcome return for the society.

The Package:

Twin room, 3 nights B&B, 2 green fees & one evening meal for our presentation on Friday night

Total €390.00 (single room supplement €180.00)

18 July 2025 – Luttrellstown Castle

Another welcome return to this golf course which is becoming a society favourite.  A beautiful parkland golf course which will be stunning at this time of year.

15 August 2025 – Captain Ian Mackey’s Day – St. Anne’s Golf Club

The wonderful St. Anne’s Links is the venue for Captain Ian Mackey’s day.  Tees from 11.00am and presentation that evening in the club, and will be fabulous day out.

12 September 2025 – Killeen Castle

We do return to the good courses often! Killeen Castle falls into that category, another fabulous parkland course that should be gorgeous at that time of year. Tees from 9.30am.

1 – 5 October 2025 – Portugal Amendoeira Golf/Ombria

For society away trip this year we have booked the highly recommended Amendoeira Golf Resort in Portugal.  We are flying with Aer Lingus, see flight details below.

The Golf:

Thursday 2 Oct we play the challenging O’Connor Jnr course, designed by Christy O’Connor Jnr and Saturday 4 Oct we play the award wining Faldo Course, designed by Sir Nick Faldo. Tee times for both are 10.10am. Located in the centre of the Algarve these courses are set in an area of outstanding natural beauty.

On Friday 3 Oct we will have a fun team event at Ombria Golf Course.  A little further afield, this spectacular course is in a spectacular setting in the hills above Loulé, and is well worth a visit.

7 November 2025 – Jameson Links Portmarnock

Our annual year end return to The Links never disappoints.  Tee times from 9.30am.

We will hold the presentation and our end of year presentations in The Indigo Lounge, Clontarf Castle.
