AUGUST Newsletter

Dear Member,
A day at the K Club regardless of the quality of your golf is always special. Our recent trip there had it all. High winds, rain and the occasional sighting of the Sun all complimented by a tough but fair course that was in superb condition.

Jim Stanley who ranks as one our longest hitters off the tee in the society won the event with a mere 34 points confirming  that the elements played a big part in performances on the day.

Captain Tony Judge was second with a score of 32 points, followed by Shay Fleming on 31 points.
The Classes were won by Tony Buckley, Derek Erskine and Jim Dalton.
The nines went to Vice-captain Joe O Flaherty and Kevin Maher.
Nearest the Pin was won by Stephen Mooney.
We had six 2s. Mick Kenny – Shay Fleming – Louis O Carroll – Peter Finnegan – Conor Dalglish – Tony Judge

A little aside to the days golf. A member who shall remain nameless  managed send his golf bag into the Liffey .On retrieving and emptying the contents of the Liffey from his bag  one of his playing partners asked had he considered purchasing a fishing licence in addition to his green-fee just on the off chance he might have bagged a salmon? The reply is unprintable!!

Thanks to Gallagher and Gallagher Quigley Estates for sponsoring the event at the K Club. The wine hampers were first class and the members who received them were most deserving as they worked very hard to get into that elite group of winners on the day.

CAPTAINS DAY AT ROYAL DUBLIN

This year we have moved Captains day to August, a month earlier than usual to ensure we play the course at its best  prior to the commencement of the annual maintenance program.

Tony Judge invites you to join him at Royal Dublin for his Captains day and dinner on Friday the 21st of August.
Always a great day and an even better night reflecting back on the past 20 years or so that we have availed of the hospitality at Royal Dublin.

Our best wishes to Tony and his company Clubs-to-Hire who are sponsoring Captains Day.

TIME-SHEET NIGHT

The time-sheet will be available on Thursday the 13th of August between the hours of 8.00pm until 9.30pm
Please note that you must present in person if you are looking to play at a particular time. Preference will be given to members who are in attendance.
In the event that you are unable to attend please ensure that your green-fee is paid on your behalf. You will be allocated a slot by the committee member who is looking after the time-sheet on the night. Green-fee charge which includes dinner and entertainment will be the usual fantastic value.
There is no  golf only package for Captains Day. Members who cannot attend dinner must notify Starter Bryan Kenny at the conclusion of their round. Prize winners must be in attendance or their card will be pulled and the prize will be presented to the next best score.
Members must have returned two cards in the in the 2015 season to be eligible to win the Captains prize.
Members who are in their first year with the society cannot win the Captains prize.
The good news however is that all other prizes are there for the taking.

We request that all members respect the dress code at Royal Dublin. Jacket and Shirt. Ties are optional. Slacks and shoes will finish your outfit off very nicely.

PORTUGAL / INSURANCE
This event is just around the corner and will be upon us before we know it.
Just a small reminder bearing in mind the couple of medical emergencies we had in Majorca last year.
Have you got current travel insurance ?

Have you got a European Health Insurance card and is it still valid ? This card is available to you FREE and can be applied for on-line. Please use the official HSE website or you will end up paying a fee to a third party.
We recommend that all members traveling with the group are in possession of both of the aforementioned.
