SUTTON & BALTRAY OUTINGS

Sutton Golf Club – Good Friday 2016
You could have heard a spiders footsteps as it stomped across the ceiling. Such was the silence and attention that Roddy Carr received when he addressed the members after dinner. He recounted stories of his beloved famous father the late JB Carr and the friendships that he personally shared with some of golfs legends. Seve Ballesteros, Jack Nicklaus, Bernhard Langer, Tony Jacklin, Tom Lehman, and a host of others were all included in the wonderful anecdotes he shared with a somewhat star struck audience. Glancing around the packed to capacity dining room at the expressions on the faces of our members, it reminded me of a bunch of hopeful young lads let loose at their first disco. Priceless!

Roddy was followed by Conor Dalglish who entertained the troops with a few beautiful ballads. He was joined by Suttons Man in Black, Donal Brannigan with a few numbers until time was called  at 8.30pm. being the day that was in it. Sean Guirke brought the curtain down with a couple of his own favourite Irish airs.

Check out the video of Donal Brannigans performance here!

What a finish to an absolutely superb day, and I have not even gotten around to mentioning the reason we were in Sutton in the first place. Golf.

THE GOLF & RESULTS
We were truly blessed with great weather and a record breaking attendance. The sunshine provided the illusion that this was going to be a walk in the park until we encountered the cross winds that put manners on all who played and caused a bit of havoc on score cards, particularly towards the end of the round.

Our sponsors Aubrey Woolfson (Zara Brands) & Cian Bennis (Annesley Williams) are to be congratulated for their hospitality that included breakfast and a superb dinner plus what seemed like a sea of red and white wine to compliment the fine food we received. Thank you.

Aubrey ensured that no wine glass remained empty which may be the reason why you had a headache on Saturday morning.

Cian very kindly donated a Mercedes golf bag. Apparently, he throws a new car in free every time you buy a bag. This was raffled among the members and it raised €1000 towards the annual society charity. A great start to the charity collection.
