APRIL Newsletter

When God created his current home, Heaven. He overshot the planning map and found he had a bit of land to spare. He  tossed it to one side and this slice of Paradise  landed just behind Superquinn. This little piece of Heaven is now Sutton Golf Club.
If Fergal Quinn had been around at the time he would have been less than impressed as he may have seen  it as a great opportunity to extend his car-park. Mind you over the years I may have put a few balls into the one he ended up with.

Anyway Fergal didn’t get the extension, and went on to build a supermarket empire and became a Senator.  We got the legendary J.B. Carr and possibly the best nine hole course in Ireland,
You can’t beat a happy ending.

Our first outing to Sutton this season we had fifty-nine members and guests playing a course that was in superb condition. For the Sutton members who are a part of the society it was a very proud day for us to present to our fellow members and guests a course that is also blessed  by some of the best scenery this country has to offer.

It is also worth bearing in mind, this was one of the biggest outings we have had in 25 years and it required military like precision to ensure that everyone was fed and teed off on time .This was no mean achievement. My compliments to our starter Bryan Kenny who was assisted by Tony Walshe.

The course and greens were in excellent condition and many were the compliments paid to the green-keeping staff for giving us a  truly magnificent course to play on the day.
I would particularly like to thank Michael and his staff for the warm welcome and excellent service we received,
The best compliment of all  was the request by many of our members to return and play the course next season.

Our thanks and appreciation to Aubrey Woolfson for sponsoring the day. The array of mouth watering wine hampers were well earned by the winners. We also enjoyed a very tasty breakfast which was included in the very reasonable green-fee at Sutton

This was also a special day for the society where we got the opportunity as a group to remember our deceased members.
Our thanks to Liz Cassidy who very kindly presented the winner with the Memorial trophy which bears the name of her late husband Frank and all of our deceased members.
